Why Rest Can Be Wrong
This depends on what you have done, but after the first 48-72hrs it is important that some form of exercise that will not exacerbate the existing condition is performed. The reason for this is that exercise is a healing agent. It releases endorphins to help fight pain, increases cellular metabolism and increases the transport of nutrients to the injury site.
It is advisable that you continue to ice the injury after any bought of exercise or prolonged period of activity. This will help reduce any adverse reaction to the exercise and minimise inflamation.
Exercise of the actual injury when appropriate also reduces stiffening, loss of circulation and muscle size. Again this depends on your injury and the advice of your Surgeon/Physiotherapist.
